President Lincoln once said of our nation’s responsibility to the brave souls who protect our freedoms, “…To care for him who shall have born the battle and for his widow and his orphan…”

Ya know, this concept of caring for our soldiers is not something new. No… this concept reaches far back to when the Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock. Waaaayyyyy back when in 1663, the Pilgrims of Plymouth Colony were at war with the Pequot Indians, the Pilgrims passed a law that stated that disabled soldiers would be supported by the colony.

Then, after many iterations of programs aimed at caring for our soldiers, who had returned from WW1, President Hoover signed an Executive Order that elevated the Veteran’s Bureau into what we know today as, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs or The VA.
